Me Dumb, or Them Dumb?

Here’s a quote from Reuters about the latest SpaceX launch:

NASA and Elon Musk’s commercial rocket company SpaceX launched a new four-astronaut team on a flight to the International Space Station on Friday, the first crew ever propelled into orbit by a rocket booster recycled from a previous spaceflight.

Damn. Apparently, the space shuttle was SO LONG AGO that modern humans can’t remember that the solid fuel boosters were recycled…

Damn. Kids today.

  1. Also, AP is reporting: ”SpaceX launched four astronauts into orbit Friday using a recycled rocket and capsule…” Couldn’t the shuttle’s orbiter be considered a rather sophisticated “recycled capsule”?

    1. Exactly. But the thing is– what do they say about it if the “recycled” gimmick is removed? “Man conquers space?” “The final frontier?” “No one can hear you scream?” You see, without the “recycled” bit they don’t have anything to say. “Rockets. Pfffft.”

  2. Ok until one gets taken out by space junk, like in GRAVITY. Personally I think we should be spending all that moola on trying to save the planet and the folks. We’re probly screwed anyways, We had hard data from Space 10 years ago that the Antarctic and Arctic systems that control ocean currents and jetstream are so out of past normals that ALL the oceanic currents have been altered. And oh, by the way, we allowed all those old ocean sensing satellites to die.

  3. The Space Shuttle was by some accounts the most dangerous flying machine ever, its’ sad failures were truly horrific. So NASA can fly stuff millions of miles out there and back, but can’t get us safely into orbit or back to the Moon.??
